Hearing Aid Repair

Heights Audiology & Hearing Aids provides access to devices with some of the most advanced technology in the industry. Wearers are advised to follow normal maintenance routines to avoid potential break downs. But even if something goes wrong, there are plenty of roads to a solution.

Common Problems

There are four main problems that can occur with hearing aids. Three of them have to do with sound, and the last one is related to comfort. When dealt with promptly, none of these problems destroy the longevity of the device.

No Sound

When you hear no sound coming from the hearing aids, make sure that the device is turned on. Other checkpoints include the battery, the volume and the software. Modern hearing aid software can have an adverse effect on the device when the settings are not in sync.

Uncomfortable Sounds

Uncomfortable sounds coming from the hearing aid is the second issue, and just as easy to manage. Check for battery corrosion or the volume level. If you notice that there is feedback at higher volumes, then take your hearing aid to the clinic for repair. Uncomfortable sounds can also be the result of tinnitus, which is completely unrelated to the hearing device. If you notice the uncomfortable sounds persist even when your hearing aid is off, then set up an appointment for an updated hearing test.

Feedback

Whistling and feedback can be tinnitus related but can also point to physical damage in the device. The hook or tube of the hearing aid will give off a squealing sound when something isn’t right. This can cause random feedback to occur at all volume levels. If you notice any feedback from your hearing aid then set an appointment with the clinic to resolve the issue.

Custom Fit

Hearing aids are custom fit for the individual wearer. An uncomfortable device is instantly noticeable and highly irritating. If you’re a new wearer that is still in the adjustment period, then try turning the device to a lower volume. A lower volume eases your brain into the new fit without compromising the prescription. If the uncomfortable feeling remains after the adjustment period, then make an appointment with an audiologist.

Professional Help

Sometimes home repair and maintenance won’t resolve the most common hearing aid issues. The clinic can look at your hearing device and bring it back up to meet the standards. In some cases, the repair will take place on the same day visit. Device repairs that are beyond the clinic’s expertise are sent off to the manufacturer for a full replacement. When this happens, loaner hearing aids can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
